Job Description


• Review and analyze claim reports and accompanying documention. Prepare for file make-up.
• Conduct investigation on each reported claim to the extent deemed necessary. If required, assign for field investigation.
• Set initial reserves to cover potential losses. Continue to monitor reserves, updating as circumstances change.
• Determine compensability and take appropriate action to include filing of necessary forms. Arrange for timely payment of indemnity and medical bills.
• Make necessary efforts to return injured workers to full duty or modified work as soon as possible. When necessary, assign nurse case managers and rehabilitation specialists. Arrange for independent medical examinations when appropriate.
• Prepare claims for pre-hearing conferences, hearings and conciliations as scheduled.
• Ensure that awards are paid in a timely fashion following the issuance of a notice of decision.
• Monitor pension cases and periodic claimant activity checks.
• Document all actions through establishing claim files in accordance with policy and procedural guidelines established by claims management.
• Settlement dollar authority is $50,000.
• Bring problematic issues or concerns to the attention of the Claim Manager for further review and discussion.
• Close claim files when appropriate to reflect in the loss reporting to the client.
• Set priorities and manage workflow utilizing the weekly renewal list to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities.
• Train and work closely with junior Claim Specialists to efficiently and effectively manage the claims process.
• Work with management to provide mentoring, coaching, and training for other employees while fostering an environment of teamwork.
• Continue to develop technical abilities and proficiency through ongoing self-study, approved educational programs, attending in-house and outside seminars, etc.
• Maintain a cordial and effective relationship with clients, co-workers, carriers, vendors, and other business contacts. Interact with others effectively by utilizing strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Keep informed of industry information, new product information, legislation, coverages and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.
• Participate in special projects, committees, and any efforts to improve the agency and its operations.


• College education preferred or combination of education and required experience
• Minimum 5 years worker's compensation claims handling experience
• Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred to support a Spanish speaking book of business
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to access and retrieve computer data, various files, reports and records.
• Must maintain a valid drivers license, or have transportation available when needed to be able to leave for calls, meetings and/or visits.
