Job Description

Loan Syndicate & Sales is responsible for identifying and synthesizing capital market trends and investor behavior to provide leading edge advice and execution capabilities for both KeyBank’s issuing clients as well as to provide quality assets for KBCM’s investing clients. The group is responsible for assisting Debt Capital Markets in the origination of and ultimately opines on the structure in order to distribute risk through the selling of KeyBank-agented loans to external investors. These investors include banks, finance companies and institutional investors. In addition, the group is primarily responsible for developing relationships with these counterparties and becoming familiar with their investment strategies and parameters. Internally, Loan Syndicate & Sales aligns closely with all lines of business and industry groups within KeyBank and should be aware of all bank deals (both KeyBank and competitor-led) each group is pursuing and the respective strategies for each issuing client. Loan Syndicate & Sales monitors these relationships and gathers market intelligence taking into consideration the interplay of both the primary and secondary capital markets.

Responsible for coordinating with the Structuring / Originations team in the primary bank loan market in the following ways:
  1. Proposal Stage – screens the market to determine investor appetite for new & amended transactions; responsible for devising a syndication strategy and identifying appropriate potential investors
  2. Mandate Stage – once KeyBank is mandated on a deal, responsible for all aspects of the distribution from: developing tiers & fees alongside Structuring / Originations team, initial supply / demand analysis, identifying potential investors and laying out the mechanics and timing of contact
  3. In-Market Stage – when transaction is in market, manages the ongoing interaction with investors, synthesizes investor feedback, updates KeyBank’s issuing client on progress and determines course of play and probabilities of expected commitments.
During primary syndications, works closely with HY Sales and Trading in coordination of coverage and to allocate KeyBank led deals. Works closely with secondary trading coverage to support KeyBank led deals once deals break for trading.

Develops and maintains important bank, non-bank and institutional investor relationships and generates revenues from these relationships:
  • Articulates / demonstrates our organizations’ value to bank, non-bank and institutional investors in terms of clients’ financial strategies and measures;
  • Identifies ways that our organization’s products, sales and service unites work together to deliver value;
  • Keeps abreast of emerging market trends; Gathers information to understand market strategies and their view of market opportunities;
  • Assists with the maintenance of a database on investors, their appetites, deal structure preference, deals Key participates in, or reviews from other Arrangers (internal and external resources), etc.

Develops and maintains strong internal partnerships and generates revenues from these partnerships:
  • Represents Syndications perspective in credit approval meetings and prepares Distribution Risk Analysis memos;
  • Partners with Originations, RMs and PMs to structure loan originations for syndicated debt market;
  • Orchestrates internal resources to meet client needs and manage the process of executing syndicated transactions;
  • Fully engages Loan Syndicate and Sales with our Structuring and Origination partners
  • Serves as a leader for client quality and service;
  • Acts decisively to implement solutions and resolve crisis, and follows up to assure resolution;
  • Gains insight on successes and challenges through client and partner feedback;
  • Engages internal partners in deal debriefs to discover opportunities to improve.

Networks inside and outside of our company to broaden business knowledge base and to increase personal effectiveness
  • Involvement in industry related associations;
  • Maintains an established network within the financial community;
  • Represents KBCM’s platform to the Arranger and buy-side participants;
  • Provides technical and developmental support to more junior resources on the team

Executes strategy within corporate guidelines and policies;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field
  • Five or more years of relative product experience
  • Experience in the overall capital markets businesses and bank loan market
  • Strong credit background and capital structure knowledge
  • Bank Loan investor relationships
  • Analytical expertise
  • Ability to understand terms sheets and legal bank loan documents
  • Strong client service / interpersonal skills
  • Solid communication skills, computer competency, negotiation and persuasion abilities
  • Ability to work without extensive supervision
  • Writing proficiency
  • Willingness to travel
  • Understanding of Fixed Income and Equity Capital markets, as well as knowledge of loan trading
