Job Description

Responsible for monitoring the loan workout process for assigned loans with a goal of limiting losses. Participates with Regional Managers and Team Leaders in developing business plans for the loan workout functions. Assists management in policy making and personnel related activities. Individual works closely with the staff, Lines of Business and bank groups in resolving problem loans. Mentors junior work out officers to develop skills and competencies. Negotiates skillfully, fairly and ethically with customers and other constituencies. Ensures adherence to all corporate compliance guidelines. This position reports to Asset Recovery Group Team Lead and the Asset Recovery Group’s Regional Manager.


  • Develop and implement work-out strategies, both short and long-term for the assigned region or industry to limit losses on outstanding loans.
  • Manage and recommend commercial assets for non-accrual or charge-off disposition, within budgeted levels.
  • Communicate work-out strategies and portfolio observations on a regular basis to LOB and Credit Executives
  • Make recommendations to next level, for approval of strategies.
  • Responsible to participate in Asset Quality Review process and provide timely documentation.
  • Ensure the adherence to department guidelines, policies and compliance procedures.
  • Work with bank counsel in a cost effective manner to achieve desired results.
  • Work with other professionals such as appraisers, environmental consults, auctioneers, real estate brokers and property managers to maximize return on collateral securing loans.
  • Mentor and develop the ARG staff through effective teaching and coaching skills.
  • Shadow accounts on the line, which need workout advice.
  • Maintain constructive interaction with regulators
  • Periodic assignments related to the constantly changing Risk Management environment.
  • Support departmental continuous improvement efforts.
  • Participate in community service activities.


  • Bachelor degree or extensive commensurate experience.
  • Bankruptcy/workout experience, Seven or more years.
  • Financial statement analysis experience, seven or more years.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven skills in assessing credit risk
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of commercial credit products and loan documentation
  • Knowledge of creditors rights, collection practices, and bankruptcy
  • Knowledge of compliance


  • Workout experience spanning a complete business cycle.
  • Commercial lending experience
