Job Overview

In accordance with the Risk Review Group’s (RRG) Data Analytics (DA) Strategy, the individual will be responsible for developing and executing audit analytics and championing projects aimed at improving analytic capabilities that will improve Key Bank RRG productivity and drive depth into various reviews and risk evaluations. The individual will have a strong understanding of the effective utilization of data analytics and computer assisted auditing techniques (CAATs) – Ideally in the Financial Services Industry, and will gain an understanding of KeyBank’s production and enterprise data repositories. Additionally, the individual will leverage strong collaboration skills to work with engagement teams and the bank’s line of defenses to effectively analyze bank data with the goal of driving depth of review coverage and increasing efficiency within scheduled reviews.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Leverage current and emerging enterprise technologies to progress RRG’s data analytics strategy to advanced stages of RRG’s maturity model. Leverages existing enterprise meta data repositories and assist in the development of RRG documentation on data sources to facilitate accessing, understanding and analyzing data.
  • Evaluate centralized and decentralized models and provide RRG management with supporting recommendations and implementation strategies. Collaborate with Key’s Risk Management and Technology & Operations departments to identify the most efficient means of harvesting data for analysis and reporting.

  • Acts as an internal consultant to various RRG teams, providing expert knowledge of company systems, processes and associated data. Establish a collaborative approach with RRG credit, market, and operational teams to identify, utilize and enhance meaningful application of DA and CAATs.
  • Design and evolve methods to integrate the use of DA & CAATs into risk reviews, risk universe scoring, risk indicators, annual planning, continuous monitoring, and continuous auditing. Develop the standard toolkit for data mining, DA and CAATs (i.e. SAS, ACL, SQL, etc.).

  • Develop and communicate work paper documentation standards for the use of DA and CAATs. Demonstrate and market DA and CAAT capabilities, advantages and success stories to RRG management and staff.

  • Simultaneously lead and manage data analytic projects involving RRG Data Subject Matter Experts (SME). Possess the ability to supervise and provide guidance throughout the project life cycle from planning, testing, and review of work performed.

  • Stay abreast of evolving utilization, best practices, and trends in the use of DA and CAATs for internal audit, credit, operational and other risk areas within large banks. Stay informed on regulatory expectations for the use of DA and CAATs in banks. Keep RRG management apprised of trends and evaluation of RRG adoption in relation to trends and expectations.

    Education Background Required:

  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in a related field (computer science, management information systems, statistics, accounting or finance)

Essential Skills/Knowledge:

  • Experience with the mainframe zOS, distributed server environments (Unix, Windows, etc.), databases (Oracle, DB2, Teradata, etc.), ETL middleware (i.e. Ab Initio, Job Command Language)
  • Experience with data mining and analysis utilizing analytical software (i.e. SAS, ACL, SQL)
  • Experience with business itelligence tools such as IBM Cognos, Crystal Reports software, Tableau
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and in teams.

    Previous Experience Required:

5+ years of DA and data extraction experience with diverse and complex data structures.

5+ years audit experience or comparable risk, control and analysis experience


  • Comprehensive and current knowledge of financial service company products, services, and strategies
  • Knowledge of financial services application systems and related data structures
  • Experience with internal auditing (i.e. writing test procedures, documenting work performed, drawing conclusions, and identifying issues).
  • Experience with managing software in large scale environment with diverse platforms

Preferred Certification (one of the following):

  • Education background with an emphasis on Business Analytics, Quantitative Analysis, or Statistics or Finance/Accounting
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
  • SAS Certified Programmer
  • SAS Certified Advanced Programmer
  • ACL Certified Data Analyst
