As a Specialty Home Lending Leader (SLL) you will build and lead a high performing team of loan officers that collaborate with Key Private Bank, Business Bank and Middle Market teams to earn referrals of clients and to serve their home lending needs. The Specialty Lending team is purchase focused and has an extensive referral network outside of Key to drive in new banking, wealth and home lending relationships to KeyBank. The Specialty Lending Leader reports directly to the National Specialty Channel Manager.

The role of the Specialty Home Lending Leader is to recruit, coach, develop, lead and motivate a team of Specialty Loan Originators (SLOs) capable of analyzing complex clients’ home lending needs, and ultimately achieving and or exceeding sales production and quality goals. In addition, the Specialty Lending Leader would be accountable for region level pipeline management, loan quality, application pull through, and first-pass underwriting approval rates. The SLL is an expert on mortgage and knowledgeable of all real-estate options/products. This role will work in partnership with local KPB, Middle Market and Business Bank leaders and partners to grow RM participation with mortgage referrals and booked production to achieve market level goals. The SLL will lead SLO external business development activities targeting realtors in affluent and luxury real estate, CPAs, attorneys, healthcare organizations and centers of influence. The SLL will lead driving in new to bank households through home lending production. The SLL will also be responsible for SLOs to deliver a high level of client satisfaction according to annual targets. The SLL will also manage SLO productivity to align with expected productivity goals, including higher productivity targets when the SLO has sales assistant support or multiple sales assistants for support.
  • Specialty Home Lending Leaders and all team members are expected to act professionally at all times, conduct business ethically, avoid conflicts of interest and act in the best interest our clients and Key.
  • Develop, coach and lead a team of SLOs skilled and confident to deliver on clients full home lending needs. Sets the tone and expectation around teamwork, collaboration and performance objectives. Manages and evaluates performance to achieve respective channel goals.
  • Ensure optimal level of SLO staffing to support the Private Bank, Middle Market and Business Bank RM teams and clients.
  • Serve as a market residential lending expert across all markets in SLL’s managed territory.
  • Manage the facilitation, results and improvements with credit decision escalation process, pricing exceptions, and overall pull through.
  • Lead and support the development, delivery and execution of training/skill building for KPB RMs, BBRMs and Middle market RMs to help them source and identify home lending opportunity.
  • Maintain an internal and external talent pipeline; hires, trains and onboards loan officers and new loan officer assistants.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with internal partners to drive excellent client experience, high-quality originations and strong SLO partnerships between operations, underwriting, and fulfillment
  • Effectively assist loan officers with resolving client complaints within a timely fashion
  • Ensure loan officers adhere to the KeyBank home lending policies, including government regulations; ensure information is properly disclosed to clients.
  • Responsible for overall compliance and quality control within the department - ensuring documentation is appropriate; application packages are timely, quality is acceptable, and timely completion of disclosures.
  • Manage employee hours worked in accordance to and compliant with KeyBank’s time tracking policies
  • Is an expert on mortgage and knowledgeable of all residential real-estate options/products.
  • Minimum of three years mortgage experience or equivalent retail/lending experience which includes selling financial products
  • Bachelor's degree (business or finance preferred) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three year’s management experience in a retail sales environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute business plans and drive a high performing team – capable of meeting and exceeding results
  • Strong business acumen to include an understanding of financials (PNL), credit and lending practices
  • Demonstrated effective leadership with the ability to manage, coach and champion a successful sales team both locally and remotely coupled with the proven ability to lead change.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships among the field, LOBs and support partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of consumer loan underwriting, processing, closing and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, TIL regulations, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, RESPA regulations, local and state real estate and finance laws,, Tax Returns
