JOB BRIEF

The Senior Data Engineer, as essential part of the Decision Science & Modeling team, will support our predictive model developers and data scientists on data collection, transformation, transportation and delivery by optimizing the data architecture and data flow pipeline. The Data Engineer will be responsible of identifying, re-designing and implementing the data process improvements to automate manual processes and optimize data delivery systems for better reliability and larger scalability. One important function for this position is to build optimized data flow pipelines to automate the model scoring and output delivery system for regressional or machine learning models developed in Python, R or SAS. The candidate must be self-motivated and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Work closely with the statisticians and data scientists to understand the data need in order to solve business problems.
  • Design and build optimized data pipeline solutions to improve the data format so that the statisticians or data scientists will spend less time dealing with the issues in data format/structure and spend more running actual analytics or model development.
  • Develop advanced ETL scripts to automate the data cleansing, transformation, transportation and delivery.
  • Design and implement Bash scripts to automate the data flow process across various databases and OS platforms to facilitate the model scoring execution and model output validation and provision.
  • Design and implement Python, R or SAS routines or scripts to the production environments with automated data input and output processes.
  • Work with stakeholders including the executive, modeling, analytics, product, data and KTO teams to assist with data related technical issues and support their data infrastruture needs.
  • Create data tools for modeling and data scientist team members assisting them in providing actionable insights into customer acquisition, product pricing, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
  • Act as a resource of junior members of the team and provide necessary training if needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master or B.E. in computer science, computer engineering, information systems or systems engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience, 10-12 years of experience in Data Engineering practice and platforms.
  • Experience in designing and implementing data architecture and pipelines to facilitate predictive model implementation working with statisticians or data scientists.
  • Extensive experience in Bash script, Python, R, SAS, SQL, BigSQL, etc.
  • Excellent experience in Teradata and Unix utility tools.
  • Working knowledge of Spark, PySpark
  • High level of intellectual curiosity about the use of data engineering and analytics with strong desire to deepen knowledge.
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Experience in working in cloud environment preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, proven ability to convey the results of complex analyses in a clear and concise manner using business language.

  • Banking and Financial services industry experience preferred
