Perform financial analysis, prepare underwriting documents and manage a portfolio of complex multimillion-dollar credit requests for syndicated and club deals in KCB. The Portfolio Manager provides support for the deal team in analysis, approval, execution as well as documentation. Primary responsibility will be to assist the Senior Portfolio Manager - Team Leader and to manage a portfolio of syndicated transactions.

  • Accountable for underwriting syndicated loan opportunities in KCB
  • Serves as the point person when underwriting credit transactions for the assigned portfolio and new clients
  • Communicates and maintains active dialogue with agent bank, other lenders in syndicate and the client
  • Accumulates all data necessary to perform focused analysis. Also, manages approvals for amendments and waivers to credit facilities, as well as monitors the financial performance of portfolio companies
  • Prepares prescreen memos in collaboration with Relationship Manager and, when appropriate, Syndications to be included in initial discussions with the approving credit officer
  • Spreads financial statements and sensitizes projection and cash flow models to demonstrate ability to meet financial covenants and repay indebtedness as agreed
  • Reviews financial statements, projection models, project cash flow models and all other relevant financial and non-financial data to develop a concise focused analytical foundation for a credit decision
  • Prepares thorough credit underwriting identifying industry concerns, market share trends, financial trends and other pertinent underwriting issues to present to the approving Credit Officer
  • Ensures underwriting and structuring decisions reflect commitment to strong asset quality
  • Obtains and negotiates all necessary documentation in partnership with Syndications, if applicable, and acceptable legal counsel including, all credit agreements, notes, pledges and collateral and assures that the documentation correctly reflects rates, terms and special conditions
  • Actively participates in client calling with Relationship Managers as well as conducts periodic independent site visits to assess management, business conditions and build rapport with accounts
  • Acts as a value added member of deal teams with loan syndication, origination, and distribution for syndicated credits within the portfolio or for new prospects
  • Monitors and reviews client reporting packages including compliance certificates, and disseminates to the syndicate as required
  • Identifies potential problem accounts and works to improve the bank's position in undesirable situations
  • Prepares analysis and write-ups for amendments, consents and waivers to existing credit documentation
  • Manages completion of quarterly risk reviews and annual reviews of project loans
  • Coordinates with Syndications (when Key is Lead Arranger) and Agency Services in closing of credit facilities
  • Attend bank meetings and flagpole meetings
  • Interacts with credit partners on approvals
  • Responsible for accurate loan documentation prepared by acceptable outside counsel
  • Proactively assists Relationship Manager in development of marketing presentations and pitch books highlighting product solutions for client needs
  • Identifies cross-selling opportunities based on understanding of the client’s business and elevates ideas to Relationship Manager
  • Ensure risk rating accuracy and compliance with Credit Policy

  • College degree with preference for a major in Business/Accounting/Finance
  • At least 3-5 years of commercial lending and portfolio management experience, with preference for experience working on syndicated transactions
  • Demonstrated ability to lead team through change
  • Demonstrated high level of credit and financial acumen, team building skills, managerial skills, interpersonal skills and decision/solution effectiveness
  • Demonstrated ability to structure and negotiate lending arrangements, understand fundamental loan documents, ability to negotiate and close lending arrangements
  • Excellent client contact and relationship skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills involving other lenders, clients and prospects
  • Knowledge of other bank products (cash management, derivatives, syndication, leasing, foreign exchange, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products with strong Excel skills
