Job Title: Equity Research Data Engineering Associate

About the Job:

We are looking to hire a full-time Data Engineering Associate for the Data Analytics arm of our Equity Research team. We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated, resourceful, and has a strong applied background in database coding/programming. We are looking for this individual to have an avid interest in the financial markets, and preferably with experience in applying programming skills towards financial research publications. KeyBanc's equity research team is a well-established leader in small- and mid-cap research. Our data analytics research is considered one of our premiere publications in terms of depth and innovation.

In turn, we offer competitive pay, interaction with leading analysts on Wall Street, and experience working with a small but dynamic team of data analysts. We intend to provide relevant training as well as financial analysis certifications if needed.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Workflow tilts towards filtering large sets of databases on a dynamic basis, with the objective of highlighting insights for several equity research verticals.
  • Use propriety datasets, as well as third party procured datasets, to support published research that is available to institutional investors on a regular basis.
  • Frequent interactions with the rest of the data analytics team and research analyst teams – based in several time zones.
  • The role is well suited for individuals who perform well under tight deadlines, enjoy working with several teams, and are confident in initiating projects with the objective to drive sustainable value creation.
  • As we expand our data driven publications, we look for our candidate to be able to steer us towards the cutting edge of data, to be well connected within the data-analytics eco environment, and to be resourceful in terms of identifying third party data sources that may be value added for the research team.
Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience
  • Academic background in programming and database related coding skills
  • Working knowledge of SQL and Tableau
  • Experience or comfort working with structured data stored in RDBMS or unstructured data through web scraping
  • Proficient with manipulating data delivered through Teradata, Cloud databases, and proficient in Python (and possibly R).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Basic understanding of capital markets and the role of equity research in driving capital markets business
  • Strong Team/Communication Skills
  • Resourcefulness in data mining
  • We are looking for an individual who is preferably based in NYC or is comfortable with traveling to NYC for work purposes on a regular basis (once normal travel resumes, post virus). We offer Cleveland, Ohio and Portland, Oregon as alternative locations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Applied Programming/Data Analytics Experience
  • Understanding of automation applications
  • Formal academic certifications in relevant data analytics/engineering
  • Applying data analytics in research
  • Keen curiosity around stock research and the growing role of data analytics is core
  • Some academic background in finance/business studies would be an added asset
