ABOUT THE JOB (JOB BRIEF)

Under some supervision, the Lead Business Analytics Associate is primarily responsible for the formulation of hypotheses, translation of data, design/measurement of experiments and generation of insights to inform business decisions by using various data mining techniques. The Lead Business Analytics Associate uses data to perform moderately complex diagnostic analyses to provide answers to questions such as “Why did it happen?” and “What action can I take?” Through the use of standard reports and analysis of moderately complex data, the Lead Business Analytics Associate identifies trends and outliers and suggests solutions to resolve business challenges or implement process improvements. Success criteria include: leveraging business acumen and anticipation of business partner needs to generate own work / analyses; developing a “client ready” work product; collaboration with broader analytics teams and with a diverse group of business partners to provide solutions and recommendations; and ability to tell a compelling story to stakeholders with data.
The Default Optimization team is located in Amherst, New York and Brooklyn, Ohio, and consists of 10 Business Analysts and a Department Manager. There is currently one opening for a Lead Business Analytics Associate in the Default Strategy & Analytics arm of the department.

The primary objective of the team is to develop and deliver analytical and strategic information used to make business decisions across Loan Services. The Lead Business Analytics Associate expertise is focused in analyzing and developing customized customer contact solutions in Default Management (including Collections & Recovery, Real Estate Default Management, Loss Mitigation, Default Support Services).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Analyze, identify, and recommend appropriate solutions to moderately complex problems
  • Translate data into insights and answer the “why” question
  • Develop “client ready” work product
  • Proactively communicate with business partners and ask the right questions to understand analytics needs
  • Use visualizations to tell a compelling story with data and information
  • May guide or monitor the work of others
  • Mine/explore/ analyze data in order to identify trends, recommend process improvements, develop/ optimize omni-channel (telephone, SMS, Email, Letter) customer contact, recovery, collection strategies, and improve operational efficiency
  • Create analytical insights that enable actionable outcomes
  • Create new tools to analyze issues, recommend solutions, and solve for efficiency and effectiveness goals
  • Utilize correct logic and approaches to solve business issues
  • Perform predictive analysis and effectively communicate results, insights, and recommendations to business leadership.
  • Develop, update and maintain analysis tools, scorecards, and analytical reporting (daily/monthly/quarterly, etc.).
  • Validate output to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Continually seek ways improve processes and mitigate risk.
  • Provide assistance, advisory, and feedback as needed on cross-functional initiatives
  • Adhere to compliance initiatives as it relates to contact attempts by various contact channels and customer preferences
  • Provide functional training, advice and guidance to other analysts and groups within Loan Services.
  • Review process documentation to ensure that internal standards are met.
  • Document work processes and logic for clear line of sight into analytical methods
The successful candidate will possess the majority of the following qualifications and enjoy a fast-paced work environment providing opportunities to grow and further develop business and technical expertise.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) or 2 years minimum of relevant experience; 1 year with Master’s or PhD
  • Proficient in:
    • Microsoft Access/ Excel / PowerPoint/ Word
    • Query writing/coding with ability to perform queries of large datasets
  • Developing data visualization skill set
  • Knowledge / experience with analytical programming languages
  • Proven expertise in data analytics, modeling, forecasting, portfolio analysis
  • Ability to analyze data to identify business solutions, and present recommendations to executive audiences
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) and 2 years minimum of relevant experience; 1 year with Master’s or PhD
  • 3-5 years of experience in business analytics, especially supporting lending and default management
  • Expertise in SAS, SQL, Oracle, and/ or other database languages
  • Experience in default management analytics
  • Experience in developing and executing omni-channel contact center strategies (Dialer, Telephony, Text, Email)
  • Experience with developing strategic customer contact (Calling, Email, SMS, Letter) digital campaigns, and process flows
  • Experience with customer contact applications (ie. Katabat, Genesys) to administer, plan, analyze, monitor, and report on holistic contact channel processes and performance
  • Experience working with the ALS, MSP, CACS/CAS applications
  • Use of BI Tools for report development and explorative analysis
  • Experience working in a fast paced, back-office, banking operation
