Job Description

This role will specialize in coordinating, executing, remediating and validating test cycles and data loading activities executed on the mainframe. The role will partner closely with QAS peers, support teams, project delivery, and other IT partners to monitor and communicate batch execution status of assigned projects. The Batch Specialist SDET will coordinate plans to execute test cycles with new projects and assigning appropriate resources. This role will also be engaged in activities and communications which support lower environment availability.


  • Writes test step definitions, creates test data, enhances and normalizes Gherkin scripts, assist in triage of test results, set up tests for execution.
    • Communicate accurate execution status/health information to management, peers, and client audiences, escalate when appropriate.
    • Review schedule and jobs for assigned projects and understand what the jobs are doing.
    • Support test cycles that may need to be executed during evenings or weekends.
    • Schedule and execute meetings to transition knowledge to or from peers.
    • Coordinate plans for executing test cycles across the projects and assigning appropriate resources.
  • Focused on 2-4 Test Automation Types and Tools. (mainframe and associated batch tools)
    • Execute, monitor and validate test cycles on the mainframe.
    • Intervene when jobs fail and determine the corrective action needed to minimize delays.
    • Execute tasks including but not limited to copying data, monitoring dates and maintaining lower environment availability status and details.
    • Ensure all batch procedures initiate at proper time to maintain expected test schedule.



  • Associates Degree and/or Technical Bootcamp or equivalent work experience required.


  • Candidates can range from entry level to ten years of experience.
  • Proficient in one of the major tech stacks including: JavaScript, Java or C#.
    • Prefer 3+ years related experience related to mainframe batch execution.
    • Experience in mainframe schedules and jobs.
    • Experience with scheduling TWS, Ab initio, Mainframe skills including JCL knowledge
    • Understanding and experience with at least two KeyBank mainframe applications
    • Experience triaging mainframe batch job issues.
  • Experience in actual work, classroom/bootcamp, or personal projects.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft office applications.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel.
    • Experience working in an enterprise environment.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Passion for technology and learning new tools and frameworks based upon project work.
  • Experience or mastery of one of the test types is plus: E2E and UI Tests, API and Integration Tests, Performance Tests, Unit Tests (Java and JavaScript), Software Quality Analysis and Linting Tools, Security Scans and Tests, Service Virtualization, Build, Deployment and DevOps Tools.
