The Senior Paralegal within the KeyCorp Law Group provides superior professional legal support to attorneys in assigned function or area. Under minimal supervision, responsibilities for a Senior Paralegal include: providing competent day-to-day assistance to attorneys, conducting legal research, drafting and preparing documents and routine pleadings, summarizing and analyzing findings and maintaining results. This role requires proven ability to partner as the Paralegal acts as the liaison between assigned function/area and KeyCorp client. Success criteria include: timely and effective handling of daily requests through organization and prioritization, ability to work independently, problem-solving and sound judgment, collaboration with attorneys, clients, management and co-workers and establishing reputation as knowledgeable, responsive and influential team player.

  • Provide day-to-day assistance to attorneys in assigned function/area in support of business objectives
  • Orchestrate, organize and prioritize assignments to support needs of the business
  • Provide prompt and responsive assistance to large number of diverse clients (internal/external)
  • Possess legal knowledge and familiarity with the law relevant to assigned function/area

Conduct loan file review; prepare legal documents and pleadings; file/record legal documents
  • Organize loan files and prepare written summary of key documents
  • Prepare basic loan documents and pleadings for review by attorney
  • Establish litigation holds and maintain reports for litigation managed in Workout Group
  • File pleadings and other documents in appropriate courts/offices, including electronic filing
  • Review online case dockets and maintain complete docket copy
  • Maintain legal form bank
  • Relevant legal documents for matter, and foundation for attorney review are provided to assigned attorney in timely fashion
  • Attorney time is saved through paralegal’s preparation of basic legal forms
  • Forms of documents are preserved for use by others in the Law Group
  • Litigation is accurately tracked, and filing deadlines consistently met
Perform basic legal research - documenting and summarizing findings and effectively presenting and preserving results
  • Conduct legal research utilizing a variety of research tools
  • Summarize and present research findings in timely and cohesive manner
  • Information is sourced in a timely and efficient manner
  • Information is communicated thoroughly and concisely
Search online public records and locate requested information
  • Be familiar with and utilize online court and other governmental websites
  • Locate and transmit to attorney public information needed for documents or pleadings
Develop effective and collaborative relationships
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with client and Law Group colleagues
  • Act as liaison between assigned function/area and client (internal/external)
  • Demonstrate strong ability to partner with other Paralegals and Administrative staff
  • Treat co-workers, clients and external contacts with professionalism and respect
  • Act as team player open to participating on project teams and supporting other areas of the business as needed
  • Attorneys, clients and co-workers rely on paralegal as approachable, responsive and knowledgeable resource in assigned area

  • High-school diploma
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented; ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Ability to work independently on complex, sophisticated matters with minimal supervision
  • Comfort level working with diverse team, clients and mid to senior-level management
  • Ability to conduct research through a variety of tools, analyze data and loan documents, prepare, draft and maintain legal documents
  • Experience in recognizing and solving problems; solution-oriented, recommends process improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders and utilize sound judgement
  • Advanced banking/institutional knowledge in assigned function/area; desire to develop knowledge outside of assigned function/area and participate in special projects
  • Strong computer and systems skills
  • Ability to recognize document deficiencies and escalate to attorneys
  • Ability to think sequentially and perform next steps without oversight


  • Paralegal Certificate; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (any discipline)
  • Membership in Paralegal Association; attendance at relevant seminars/educational forums
