Job Description

The Director of Diversity and Inclusion is accountable for leading the long-term planning and execution of Diversity and Inclusion initiatives across the organization, driving an enterprise-wide culture of inclusion for Key’s current 18,000+ employees.

He/she will possess the skills to design, develop and implement innovative diversity and inclusion strategies focusing on workforce, workplace and supplier diversity.

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop a contemporary, progressive, strategic approach to D&I in the areas of leadership development, workplace engagement, workforce acquisition and supplier diversity as an economic inclusion strategy.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, to educate, engage and build momentum around Key’s commitment to a culture of excellence, inclusion and high-performance.
  • Be the voice of the D&I for the enterprise. They will develop strong, collaborative internal partnerships that will support the development and execution of the D&I strategy, including value-add consultative relationships with senior leaders in the company and authentic, direct engagement with all levels of employees that encourage and support direct participation in D&I activities.
  • Access innovative thought leaders in the industry in order to position Key as a best-practice driver of current and future D&I initiatives.
  • Build strong external relationships with trade groups and regulatory partners; gain an understanding government contractor obligations and COI that can direct and govern the execution of the plan.
  • Direct a staff and operation that will enable line leaders to set performance targets, track and report progress against plans, implement tracking and monitoring systems, understand and implement regulatory policies and redirect tactics when necessary to address gaps.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, drive and deliver an integrated diversity & inclusion strategy, with demonstrable and measurable results.
  • Increase the level of diversity awareness and commitments to hire diverse candidates, engaging senior level champions and gaining their commitment to participate in furthering an inclusive workplace, execute diverse recruitment, talent development and talent movement tactics, support the acquisition and retention of diverse suppliers (tiers 1 and 2) and actively participate in D&I activities.
  • Have a clear understanding of the business needs and an ability to develop and communicate the business case for D&I.
  • Develop and implement measurable diversity initiatives and strategies to achieve the assigned business goals with a focus on integration into current business processes, performance management and compensation targets.
  • Influence and partner with business leaders to assist in the development and maintenance of a Corporate Diversity Strategy that aligns with business initiatives.
  • Lead and participate in critical diversity events locally and nationally that provide voice to the importance of the work for the organization.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with critical industry thought leaders to remain current with industry best practices and identifiable enterprise-applicable ideas.
  • Manage the corporate inclusion agenda and foster best-practice sharing through the KBINGs, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives, and diversity-inclusion and goals.
  • Provide expertise to help teams build inclusive and respectful cultures, leveraging the diversity in their teams to ensure creativity, innovation, productivity, excellent customer service and highly satisfactory work environments.
  • Work closely with senior executives, internal communication, and human resource functions to provide resources and tools in support of action plans, key initiatives, goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for overall corporate inclusion learning strategy to ensure that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all the company’s learning and development programs.
  • Support decisions through the application of appropriate market and industry benchmarks, as well as internal tracking and monitoring systems.
  • Benchmark external diversity-inclusion programs and initiatives and recommend/implement inclusion best practices, as appropriate. Ensure that KeyBank continually enhances its reputation as a diversity-inclusion leader and benchmark against other best in class companies.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of leadership and business experience with at least 5 years of diversity and inclusion leadership experience; at least 5 years of direct management experience, with a passion for inclusion strategy, employee engagement and leadership development.
  • Demonstrated experience building and executing a successful, scalable, programmatic and cohesive D&I agenda in a complex work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect the D&I agenda both internally and externally with company’s broader community engagement, marketing, communications, performance management, compensation, and benefit programs.
  • Evidence developing and implementing industry-leading best-practices in relation to inclusion, employee engagement and learning/education.
  • Experience building business-aligned affinity groups and mentoring programs.
  • Success in building and articulating the business case for inclusion initiatives at a senior level, providing ROI measurement and tying outcomes to business.
  • Proven success in organizational assessment, strategic planning, development an implementation of diversity-inclusion initiatives that have positively impacted large organizations.
  • Breadth and depth of experience in leading change within complex and diverse organizations and cultures.
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to adapt to a changing environment and manage a wide variety of strategic priorities.
  • Outstanding communication skills - oral, written and presentation.

  • Highly developed ability to, and track-record of, influencing internal and external constituents, and providing effective issue advocacy. Track-record of building alliances and working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Leadership courage and organizational awareness - ability to be flexible, innovative and responsive to organizational needs
